And as California resident (but not native, as he will angrily point out) Will Baird (hat tip!) pointed out, you cannot help but relish the way the organizers’ obvious ties to Moscow brought the whole thing down. I don’t blame the Russian government: why not throw a hail Mary against an apparently-vulnerable opponent? But this was all too stupid for words on the part of anyone who took it seriously.
As opposed to transferring membership from the United States to the Dominion (:p) of Canada. That, well, that does not involve the creation of any new countries, to which I am opposed, and that I could get behind. It’d be more like annexing Canada than joining it, anyway. The entire northeast could follow, and what would there be to not like? Although I would be sad should New York and Pennsylvania wind up in different countries.
