Many of you may know that the Argentine Republic has a remarkably liberal immigration policy. But it does have an immigration policy; Argentine borders are not open. And now the Macri administration wants to tighten them a little bit.
What will the new decree do? First, it will shorten the time it takes to deport an undocumented migrant convicted of a crime to two months. Second, it will prohibit deportees from returning for at least eight years. Third, it will create joint databases with other Latin American countries to keep track of people with criminal records. Finally, the Ministry of Security will take over border control from the Interior Ministry.
So of course Security Minister Patricia Bullrich would be asked if this meant that Argentina would be building a wall.
Sometimes you just gotta laugh.
