My reaction to most new technological developments at the level of personal tech usually falls into one of two categories. (1) “Who gives a fuck?” Fitbit, any new phones since 2007, Google Glass. (2) “This is going to make life worse.” Intelligent personal assistants (Alexa, Siri, et al), autonomous flying drones, ever-smaller cameras, virtual reality, whatever succeeds Google Glass. (Self-driving cars are in an intermediate category if they really bring down accidents.)
In general, I am not a terribly big fan of the future I find myself in. I like TiVo, cellphones were nifty, search engines are an excellent thing and I wish that more books and datasets were digitized. Beyond that, I am neutral ... at best. Even blogging, hey, it wastes some time, but there is a reason I went off social media as soon as I got on it.
So ... I am happy to discover a list of new inventions that I really can get behind! Now, not all. The Naked 3D fitness tracker is creepy. Ori Systems robotic furniture seems useless. Awair smart air-quality monitor, pretty much ditto. And I cannot really see myself buying an OURA ring.
But the rest? Awesome! A future I can get behind.
Plus, my kids and I watched a spaceship take off from our attic window last night.
