Sadly, Die Hipster the blog is no more. But today South Brooklyn scored a victory over the new cool whatever not-Brooklyn Brooklyn with the restoration of express service on the F Train. That hasn’t existed since I was in high school! So, good.
Me, though, I’m more concerned with the Red Line these days. Hopefully, they’ll do the accelerated rebuilding, rip the band-aid off, and give me a subway train that I can use on evenings and weekends. My neighbors, they talk of these mysterious far-off times when you could count on the Metro after 8pm and on weekends, to which I simply marvel.
The current dire state of Metro makes me very sad, because I remember what a showpiece for the city it was when it first opened. It was like living in the future. When I was a teenager I'd ride Metro into the city on weekends and hang out at the museums.

MTA can't run more trains on the F because of interlining issues with the M in Manhattan, the E in Queens, and the G in Brooklyn, so adding 'express' service only means that people who get on at the busy 'local' stops N of Church Ave will be hosed. I predict status quo.
But meanwhile it's fun to hear the two relevant councilmembers toss press releases at each other.

Brooklyn is apparently getting its first Apple Store this year.
