All right! They landed on the water ship. One step closer to real spaceships!
Although we are still sadly far. And I continue to challenge Doug to defend his happiness at the tragic end of the space shuttle. After all, discovering that a dream was impossible and fraudulent is cause for tears, not celebration.
But, for now, a step closer to spaceships! Real actual spaceship-acting spaceships!
Discovering a dream is fraudulent may be sad. But finally turning away from the dream in order to pursue something that might actually work? That's cause for, if not delight, at least sober pleasure and resolve.
The Shuttle was insanely expensive, killed a bunch of people, and accomplished very little compared to what it cost. Pretty much every analyst now agrees that it was a very costly mistake.
It was cool as hell, no question. But it wasn't $200 billion worth of cool.
