The debate that ended 45 minutes ago is why I dug up that old post from my unpublished archives. (I dunno why I failed to publish it.)
I have gotten some pushback from my declared like for Chris Christie. Oh, I never liked his policies as governor. But I liked him. I liked him because he was a jerk in such a Tristate Area way. It was a visceral like, the kind of like you have from someone who shares your folkways.
JKR pushed back on that, but hey, nobody in their right mind thinks that the kind of demeanor that goes over well at a Maurer family reunion would do for President of the United States!
But tonight Christie flipped me to total disrespect. Because Chris Christie took a question about law enforcement and used it to push every fucking racial button that he could. It was an answer aimed at a white 65-year-old suburbanite who graduated high school in East Flatbush the year of the MLK assassination riots and never got over it. It was disgusting to watch. ADDENDUM: Do a word search on the transcript for “Great Beer Summit.”
He was followed by John Kasich giving an honorable answer. Not all desperate GOP candidates have decided to stoop so low.
So screw Christie. Yeah, he did well among black (relatively) and Latino (absolutely) voters in Jersey. That was old Christie, the dude I liked, even if I disagreed with him. This new one is worth nothing.
