Dammit! I missed an opportunity, it seems.
Kevin Drum pointed out a great paper that demonstrates that Southern whites moved to the GOP for racial reasons. (Basically, the move is concentrated among people who told pollsters that they would never vote for a black man for President and invariant to other things.)
Why am I annoyed? Because I was at the conference where that paper was first presented. (See photo above.) Bah!
