As a teenager, Bloom County was one of my favorite comic strips.
But it went away in 1989, six years before the Far Side and Calvin and Hobbes followed it into oblivion. So I was a little surprised to pick up Politico today and read, at the back of the print edition, what looked like a Bloom County comic strip about Donald Trump.
And it was Bloom County! You can see the strip at the link. And according to this article, Donald Trump may actually deserve the credit! “This creator can’t precisely deny that the chap you mention had nothing do with it.”
For those of you who did not follow the strip back in the day, the storyline that I followed over my freshman year at college involved Donald Trump’s decision to buy the strip and fire all the main characters. (His brain had also been transferred into Bill the Cat, but that is probably not worth explaining. Even if I remembered any more, which I don’t.)
Anyway, I did mention that Politico is to blame for the fact that my boy can recognize the faces of Marky Rubio and John Boehner. But informing me that Bloom County was back more than made up for it. Thank you. Politico!
Now, please, stop hurting America.
