One of the things about owning a home is raking up leaves. It’s actually not un-fun, it’s just that the boy wants to help. That said, when your neighbors succeed in making big piles, they are perfect for getting your new scooter stuck.
I admit, I do like living in a single-family house right around the corner from a Metro station and within walking distance of everything; we own a car, but need it only for my wife to get to work. Other than that and the occasional day trip to Baltimore or Prince George’s County, we never use it, not even for groceries.
I am aware that my house only exists because of zoning. But I would still gladly vote to abolish that zoning, even though I know that I would run the risk of having somebody build something that would put my house in shadow. It is just the right thing to do.
It also opens the possibility that somebody would come along and make us an amazing offer on our house (my friend Bernard nods here in satisfaction) which is why all the people on the border of downtown Bethesda want the area of high density extended to them. Of course, the people who would then be on the border have shorter time horizons and oppose said extension. Ni modo.
Anyway, there is the answer to your question, NYCMT! How are yours, by the way?
Ah, the scooter. As we live in a six-story apartment block situated in a neighborhood dominated by densely-packed single family homes, and well within walking distance to LIRR, subway, school, and everything else, I grok your point exactly.
Two shots of Him on scooter. Yesterday, on the Boardwalk in Ventnor:
