The example of partial decriminalization gone wrong that I often think of here is the Netherlands and prostitution. Instead of bringing everything into the light, it just wound up giving more power to some exceptionally evil and exploitative people.

What percentage of marijuana sold in California comes from Mexico? I would suspect that much is home-grown, as the low cost per unit of weight (as compared to other illegal drugs) makes it less profitable to import.

While I am all for legalization, I do not believe it will ever happen in my lifetime. Having multi-billion dollar agencies within the US govt whose sole survival requires that it never become legal is the reason legalization will never happen.
