Here's a summation of the race in lolcat form:

Someone noticed that Franken did disproportionately well on the last batch of absentee ballots, even from otherwise Republican areas. The theory was that many absentee voters are soldiers serving in Iraq and Afghanistan, and Franken made a good impression with them through his USO shows...

It's also worth noting that until last Saturday there were three sitting US Senators who were graduates of James Madison High School in Brooklyn. Now there are two -- only one point extra credit for naming them...
