I would have thought that as an economist, your PSA would have been more towards budgetdeficit, deficit, deficit, public debt, deficit, public debt, banks, public debt.

I think the argument is that moral issues aside, the US health care system is a huge drain on our economy, combining the inequities of capitalism with the inefficiencies of socialism and injecting a huge irrelevancy and complication into the relationship between employer and employee. I agree that this week it doesn't look like the biggest threat to our economy, but it's something that Obama could conceivably do a lot of good about and something McCain's stated policy would make much worse.

As for this week's unpleasantness, the one person most responsible for the deregulation of the financial markets was Sen, Phil "Nation of Whiners" Gramm, McCain's chief economic advisor.
