Well, based on the extraneous costs associated with security theater, I'd have to say that it probably doesn't help. The cost of airport taxes or whatever they're called kills any multihop routing for getting cheaper tickets, frex.

Huh. There's an interesting notion.

But Noel, I don't think people are afraid to fly because of terrorism (well -- now they are, of course, since security theater is there to convince them they should be.)

They're afraid to fly because it involves being suspended in midair in a big freaking hunk of metal which by all rights should plummet to its fiery demise. I mean, really. Have you ever stood under an airport's flight path and looked? There's no way those things can possibly work.
