I heard about that last week. I was amused too.

Randy pointed me to the Third Russian Empire:

(or here: http://tinyurl.com/yuwpoh). I am surprised that it doesn't have Alaska annexed back to Russia in that given the source.

darn. can't find one of my personal favourite: annexing Mexico!

Maybe I'll whip one up. I've not trotted out the loonie idea for a while. ;)

I think I've mentioned the Jack Daniel's ad I've seen in NYC, which has a bottle of Old No. 7 in front of a list of various Western Hemisphere countries. The slogan? "Todos Somos Americanos."

(Lou Dobbs must be outraged. "LEPERS! DRUNK LEPERS! WHO WILL DRINK AND GIVE YOU LEPROSY! LISTEN TO ME! THEY'RE TAKING OUR JOBS AND DRINKING MY BOURBON!")

Even better than Dobbs are the loonies all over the map about the NAU. garsh. Talk about Fruit Loops Inc. It's also seems to be a transnational memetic infection.

sheesh.

A Bombay Sapphire Ad, or perhaps a Beefeater one, featuring a map from "The Two Georges"?

Seesha ads from....Turkey with the Sultanate at, say 1660 or so.

Ads run during NASCAR thick with magnolias and a Confederacy including Cuba, Haiti, and Panama.

Reminded me of this:

Viva Amikejo!

Absolut Magyarország! (Greater Hungary: http://www.talmamedia.com/map/hhcounty/hhcounty.htm -- the reason Hungary had a navy until after WWI is that it included Dalmatia.)

You could also probably do something with Absolut Boricua, with Puerto Rico the size of the US, and the US being a small commonwealth. That would go over great. In general, I think this was a fantastic idea for a campaign. About time people laughed about stuff like this.

Somewhat similar to this phenomenon: There was a series of ads sometime last year showing glaciers labeled e.g. "Isla Verde" and "Fajardo", for some alcoholic beverage connoting coldness. I loved those. (So much that I forget what they advertised, but still.)
