This blog had a soft spot for Marco Rubio for some time. I have to admit, the reason was really one of personal affinity more than political substance. So we ignored things as an awesome GOP tax plan from Senator Lee turned into yet another giant giveaway to the rich ... albeit with the awesome tax plan still tacked on. And we discounted the reflexive hawkery ... because other than on Cuba and Iran (two big exceptions, admittedly!) it was either somewhat justifiable (the Islamic State) or bloviation (everywhere else). Plus, there was still immigration reform and his innovative higher education proposals. And as long as “toughening the border” meant tracking down visa overstays and fining people who employ undocumented workers, well, I could get behind that.
My wife, not so much. She started off meh and moved to serious disgust. Yes, more than with the Donald.
And now, I read a three-day-old news story and have to reluctantly admit that she is right. If you still like Marco, you should vote for Ted. It’s more honest, and we might at least get a federal VAT out the mess a Cruz administration will leave us.
Sigh. I really wanted to support the Senator from West Miami.
